June 21, 2023: Ok starting this in the not-quite morning. So today I took my meds at 5:34am with combination of things. It was one of the new yogurts, but tragically this yogurt only had 6g of fat. Good thing I checked. So I also had 9 mochi rice nuggets for an additional 6g of fat. Papa gave them to me the other day. It was ok in combination with the guava passion fruit yogurt. Then I went into yoga. Yoga had another small group today, which is why I decided to grab a picture with everyone in the class when we finished. Before yoga I also talked to Debi a bit, and also the woman who was teaching the class that was in that room before. It was mat pilates. The teacher’s name was Ronna, and she said I could join any time I wanted. Unlike the reformer pilates classes, that one wouldn’t cost extra either. In my conversation with Debi she even commented that she thinks Jordan works us harder than she does, which I hadn’t really noticed. Today it was a really small class, not a full room like sometimes. So after the class I asked to take a photo with the whole class, so I have everyone in my picture for once. From left to right, the names are Bridget, Andrea, Meg, and of course Debi, the teacher. After yoga, I had been thinking I might go to the gym and do a full workout, but instead I was a bit hungry so I just did like 30 pulls on the rower thing and then went down to try the hot tub. Unfortunately this was a week the hot tub was being cleaned, so I just sat in the edge of the kids pool, which was also a decent temperature. I’d already showered yesterday so no need to do that today. Also a bit after class had started, Liz texted me back and told me that I’d be meeting at Kaposia elementary for the Open Door thing today, and shockingly she said that she’d be there too, which I wasn’t expecting. A good surprise though. Then I drove over to Poké House & Tea Bar, and I asked which order was best. The woman asked if I liked spicy, and then she recommended the spicy bowl or the tuna flame bowl. I went for the tuna flame, and I also got the mochi ice cream thing that I’ve always been wondering about there. She told me that her favorite ice cram to get was the coffee one, which is the one that I got too. Then I organized some stuff at home, and I went to Open Door for my 2:30pm shift. Today it was an off site school food distributor shift at Kaposia Education Center Elementary. There were a bunch of Spanish speakers. I took a picture with two of them afterwards, Liz and Marguedy. I also had some excellent conversations with Liz. She’s the one who was hired for the Spanish-speaking position that I had translated the job offer for. There was also another person, named Karina, who was from Oaxaca, México, but she left before the end so she’s not in my photo. I did ask her about how to say, “ask us if you have any questions” when I volunteer at Open Door, and she suggested, “nos pueda preguntar si tiene alguna duda.” Also learned that you say cabbage as “repollo.” I also learned that Marguedy is from Costa Rica, and I asked her how to spell her name since I wasn’t sure if it was an E or an A. I also told Marguedy about my crash and how Spanish was the one thing I remembered. I think I mentioned my fun fact about how some doctors thought I only spoke Spanish, since I had been talking to the Argentinian occupational therapist. I think I also joked that the accident made me forget English and now I only speak Spanish. Speaking of the great conversations with Liz, she actually suggested we could go together to see some music thing next weekend. I also learned that she also works as a certified nursing assistant with a senior center, which I didn’t write down but was able to check on her LinkedIn. She doesn’t work in a specific hospital, which I also asked. Oh and I also asked her if she got health insurance from her job at Open Door, since I know I told her that I can’t go off disability til I have health insurance. She told me that she actually gets health insurance through her husband, not her job. I had not known she was married til today. Oh and the other cool thing is that I finally told her that I felt like I’d never be able to make new friends after the brain injury, and she told me that she feels like she’s my friend now, which is nice to hear of course. She told me that I was wrong about my thought there, which is something that I love to be told that I’m wrong about. She told me that she felt like I was social and good at making friends and meeting people. Looking back through my notes, the one other thing I have written is that I learned that to say yam, you call it a “camote.” Oh and Karina is a community health worker who’s currently living with her parents to save money. Karina also showed me some new tattoos on her arm, and I showed her my snake. Now I’ve just gotta wait til 6:25pm to have my night meds, since I’ve been randomly trying to wait til exactly 12 hours after the morning ones. I’m sure I can do it. Let’s see, the other totally random thing I did today was I added to the list of Spanish words I have in a Google doc that I hadn’t known from the Quizzland app, which is a trivia game I play en español. Ok so stupidly I missed my BeReal today, by 3 minutes, but at least I got my meds exactly on time at 6:25pm, with a chicken tikka masala Trader Joe’s Indian meal with 13g fat and some fat free yogurt and hot mango chutney. It’s always nicer when I eat the meal at home so I can throw in my fat free yogurt and the 0 fat hot mango chutney.
