Thursday: Arches and the emergency room with Mauricio's hand

December 28, 2023

Ok, I'm writing this full on during the next day now. Yesterday, we gave Kerry and Ross their presents after breakfast, which was my meds with two eggs. did some stuff around the house. I did take my meds at 7:33am with two eggs, but then I threw it up afterwards. We also played  few hands of Canasta with Kerry, not doing the dumb 3-person rules.

Then, we decided to go to the Arches National Park near their house. We walked around there a bit, but mainly drove around. I got a bunch of cool photos of the arches as well. That's also when mom, Kerry and I grabbed our selfie. After exploring the arches, we went to get food. We went to a Mexican restaurant called Filiberto's. I got two tacos, which I think were fish and carnitas, and I also had an horchata.

After that, we realized my constipation issues were quite serious, and even though we'd been trying to do some stuff to fix it for days, we had gotten no results yet. Also in the afternoon, I ended up taking a long, somewhat unexpected nap and having a fever...so after realizing I was lethargic, constipated, and had a fever, we decided to bring me into the Moab emergency room. It's funny because I know I'd texted Kerry on Monday that, "I'll see anything that doesn't involve me going to the hospital as a success!" I guess I just really missed being in a hospital, because I did achieve that visit in Moab, Utah.

I suppose the actual best thing that happened there was that the the doctor who was assigned to us, Dr. Williams, was wonderful and gave us a good plan. The idea was that I eventually had to eventually go home and drink oodles of magnesium citrate. However, the thing that FELT the best about my visit was that I was able to talk to the guy who finally got my blood draw, after two or three other people had failed at poking me. His name was Mauricio, so I asked him, "¿de dónde eres?" and he was from Ciudad Juarez, in Mexico.

Basically though, we were surprised at the good level of care we received in Moab, and also pleased that they didn't try to jump into trying to cure my cancer, like some people have done in past emergency room visits.
