Rosie on walk, me being sad, shingles, Canasta with Papa

September 20, 2023:

Ok meds at 6:16am today with half an avocado that was leftover in the fridge. Then I did my Mayo pre-check for my appointment with a neurologist coming up, and took 3 Advil for a mild headache. We also went on a walk with Rosie, the dog. It was like maybe 10 minutes but I’m not sure at all. Then I wrote the beginning of this photo of the day, including a photo of “me being sad.” Right now my dad is on the phone with Mayo trying to get me scheduled for an MRI tomorrow, in addition to my CT and other appointments. Like normally, with this free time, I would consider going to the gym, but now I can barely walk without pain because of the surgery recovery, and I’m not allowed to bend over much either. Anyways, pretty much the only good part of my day was playing cards with Papa and being able to talk to Whitney. We agreed that I often build stuff up with too much anticipation, and nothing ever lives up to what I imagine it to be. After we finished, I went outside and talked to Papa and his high school friend Dave for a little bit. Didn’t think to take a photo, even though it was nice. I wrote up a list of some of the most interesting things Whitney and I talked about, and I sent them to mom. The other interesting thing that happened today was that we chose the color for the replacement roof shingles. We chose the brownwood, which is second from the top on the left. It was funny, we talked about how the only bad choice would have been the green ones. Anyways, after the shingles guy left, Papa and I finished our dinner, which was fish and potatoes. The fish had 11g of fat, so I was able to put quite a bit of butter on the potatoes. I’m really trying not to be so obsessed with taking my meds exactly 12 hours later, but I did do that today anyways. My alarm rang shortly after we started eating, so it worked out really well. Now I'm just looking at some videos on getting started with that diamond painting, and we ordered an organizer thing for the little gems too. I think tonight, I'll continue to watch that Netflix show about a girl dying in a boating accident, called Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal. Papa told me had he watched it too, and recommended that I finish it. I'm one episode in, with two left. So I guess that's what I'll do tonight.

Well, what the heck am I grateful for today? Grateful that I was able to tell Papa that today was exactly the kind of day I don't like to have. Also grateful that I can read my old journals. Today I read pages and pages out of the journal I was using when I lived at the Gibson, and it was really interesting. I guess I'm grateful I wrote that much. When I had that thought, it actually made me try to journal a bit more now, too.
