Open door with Sasha and Mystery Book Club

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

June 12, 2023: Well today started off with taking my meds at 7:04am with a granola bar I had, for 14g of fat exactly. Then I went into Open Door for my food sorter shift, which is a position I’ve never done before. Basically we just checked a ton of food for expiration dates and then stocked the main room, and I worked with a woman named Sasha, who I really liked. Sasha’s real name was Alexandra, though she told me she went by Sasha. I also learned that she worked as a nurse at Mayo Clinic, since she was wearing a Mayo sweater. I told her about my extensive experiences with Mayo. I told Sasha that my therapist asked me to do this project because of the brain injury and I usually try to have my photo of the day be a good moment in my day, and I actually really like it, and she said that she thought it sounded really cool too. When I was at Open Door I also got my pre-check done for my Mayo Clinic PET scan coming up, and I also talked to Owen a bit, and I told him about some recent dating experiences. And also when the main room opened and clients came in starting at a 10am, I shifted to the pantry assistant position and even used the computer in the client support room and got some Spanish-speakers registered and signed up for appointments. There were a bunch from Ecuador today, and they said they were from Cuenca, when I mentioned that I’d been to Quito. Then I did the same job as a translator for another client while the actual client support person listened to my translations and filled out the information based on what I said she said. Then I went home and immediately called mom to figure out some stuff for the calls I was about to make, and she had me post on Facebook asking for photo assignments because I need to earn a tiny tiny bit of money in the month of June. It looks like it’ll work out and I can take some portraits for the same woman who hired me to take her son’s senior photos last year. It also led to be talking to someone who I went to elementary school with about shooting her sister’s wedding in 2024. Oh and my old volleyball coach also just contacted me about a family shoot. I told my dad that I should have been asking for assignments on Facebook 5 years ago too. And then after I did that post and finished the call with mom I entered the session where I did the most productive stuff I’ve done all year. I called the woman, Teresa, who is the principal of the Catholic school I’m thinking of working at, and it turned out that I’d be an “administrative assistant” if I took the job, which would basically be helping the School Secretary, which is a full time position. Now I’m going to the gym, and I’ll finish this after training. Ok, going back to my productive time, right after the call with Teresa, I also did a call with the woman who was hiring volunteers for Make a Wish. It's the only thing in existence where my cancer and TBI are both positives. I’ve already payed for the background check for that position, so I’m hopeful about it too. Ok so what after all that I did is I drove to the gym and did training with Will, and I realized once I was there that my gas was quite low. So I went to the closest gas station, which worked out fine because I was 15 minutes early. Kind of used all the time though, because I had to pay inside before pumping. I also succeeded in guessing the amount to pay for perfectly. I guessed $30 and it filled up the tank completely, using all the money and not needing more. Then I went to my training with Will, which was good, and then afterwards I decided I barely had time to spend like 5 minutes in the hot tub and then shower, which was important because I hadn’t shaved the day before. Did that, even though I couldn’t find my actual razor. Had to use a disconnected razor head. Then I drove straight to the Nokomis Library for the first mystery book club meeting I’ve ever been to. It turned out that the book we were supposed to read this month wasn’t the one that I had, The Investigator. It was anything by Ngaio Marsh and we were supposed to discuss the author not the book. It was alright, though everyone was older than me. I told them that I read a bit of the wrong book, though honestly I hadn’t finished The Investigator either, so it kind of worked out that it was a different book than I thought it would be. I definitely will read the book for next month, when it is The Investigator, actually, and maybe I’ll even read some more of it right now. The other really interesting thing that happened was that a bunch of women who were much older than me commented thst they had burned or destroyed the journals that they had written when they were about my age when they re-read them recently That was easily the most interesting comment at the meeting. I don’t think I’ll ever burn mine, though that does remind me that I need to journal more, which is also something I talked about with Hannah the other day. There was one random woman at book club who recognized me from when I went over to Jodi’s neighbor Ali’s house the other day, a woman named Sandy. We said hi to each other, and I mentioned at the end that I’d only driven there because I came straight from the gym even though I lived less than a block away. Oh and I also succeeded in having my meds exactly 12 hours after my morning ones. I’d taken my morning ones at 7:04am and I took the night ones at 7:04pm. That was a success. I took them with an 11g fat pack of cheese its from Open Door, but I only realized after I’d taken the medication that the cheese its were actually peanut butter, which I generally hate. I ate it anyways, and I hated it a lot less than I thought I would. I’m not gonna become a peanut butter fanatic now, but I tolerated it and kind of liked my snack. Oh and also at the time I was a bit hungry because I hadn’t eaten in many hours, and I think I might have a bit more for dinner later, because a pack of cheese its is not a dinner. Oh and I also randomly took my BeReal on time during book club, which gives me two extra posts before tomorrow’s comes on. It just said “mystery book club,” and that was what I did.
