Open Door with Anita, Mikkel, Victoria

June 6, 2023: Alright lemme do this. Stupidly didn’t write any of it the whole day. I took a couple different photos because I kept thinking, “oh God what if I don’t get one?” So I took one with a girl I was at the front desk with, Anita, then one with Mikkel after she thanked me profusely for my photos yesterday, then at the end of the night I grabbed on with Victoria who is kind of a boss at The Open Door after I had a great conversation with her. So anyways, I guess I’ll go through the few notes I do have. Basically this morning I took my meds at 5:18am with a 10g fat cup of guacamole and toast. Then I went over to Papa’s house to do my laundry. I had a bunch of it to do, and I also had to wash my bedsheets, so I did that and finished the first load and started the second one. At Papa’s I also signed up for the video interview for Make a Wish foundation, which is a volunteer job where both my cancer and my TBI are actually positives. So now I have that appointment on the 12th and I’m quite excited about it. Then I left to go to the Methodist food shelf, where they usually need a lot of Spanish help. Honestly they weren’t that busy today, and I didn’t take any photos because I didn’t have any amazing conversations. I did sign up a bunch of people though, including two groups of Spanish-speakers where I walked them through filling out the forms all at once, which I’ve never done before. I also grabbed a lunch there, which was two pieces of cheese pizza, last eaten at 1:10pm. Then what I did was I walked home and put away my laundry a bit, and then I decided to drive over to Papa’s to pick up my quilt before Open Door. So I drove over there and put the sheet in my car and then went straight to Open Door for my 4:15pm shift. Open Door was great. They had loved the photos I took yesterday, and Mikkel said that she showed them to a bunch of staff at a meeting they had. At the greeter desk I showed them to Anita briefly, and also to Owen. Actually at Open Door today my job was pretty much entirely at the greeter desk, and I spoke a bit of Spanish too. Funny enough the volunteer Lisa actually found the pill box that I’d left there the other day! So that was awesome. It still had just my melatonin in it, which would have been no loss to lose but I’m glad I have the box. At Open Door, they also had more leftover Lunds & Byerlys food, so that was my dinner. I decide to actually not wait til 12 hours after the morning ones just because I was hungry and wanted to eat then, so I took the medicine at 4:25pm with part of a bratwurst and a piece of skewered cheese dipped in BBQ sauce. Then on the way out I grabbed a photo with Mikell too, and then I had the best conversation ever with Victoria. I told her about my need for health insurance to go off of disability, and how much I appreciate the food that I am able to eat at Open Door and my other food shelf. I also told Victoria that Open Door was the first place I was allowed to drive to alone on the highway, since my accident. She said that she remembers me being excited about driving on the highway there when I first saw her, and that she didn’t understand what a big deal it was til she got to know me much later. Oh and then I also had a second bratwurst well over two hours after the meds, which I told Owen too. He asked me if that’s how the meds work, and I said that yes it was.
