Open Door Mac & Cheeese and Open Door with Anita and Pat

July 6, 2023: Alright time to write through the day. Didn’t do any of it early. Basically I started by taking my meds a bit before 5am with a vanilla 11g fat yogurt. When it had been two hours, I also had half a cream cheese bagel. Then I took a walk listening to the first episode of Españolistos, a Spanish podcast. I think I’d listened to some of it before, but today I did the whole thing. I tried to connect my new Skullcandy earbuds and it didn’t work, so I just used Papa’s white ones. I think I actually ran them out of battery even. I took a coffee I’d made on the walk too, and walked to Lake Nokomis.

On the way there, I saw a couple of construction workers working on a house, and I kind of wanted to say hi to them in Spanish, but I failed at doing that. I did wave at them twice though. When I came back I also succeeded in asking KC who the two guys who I kept receiving mail from were, and it turns out that both of them were the last two tenants. Both guys. No reason to pop their names in here.

I also emailed Odyssey about potential in-person meet ups, and they told me there were two in D.C. and San Diego. I asked about the opportunity to meet anyone from the group in Minnesota at some point. Then I had my therapy appointment. It was nice, though when I brought up getting a new trainer and asking if she could be like a therapist, like Will is, Whitney did ask me how many therapists I need, and that I’m making her feel bad. I promise I’m not replacing Whitney at any point. We did talk about maybe meeting in person in a park some time too, since she’s not in an office anymore.

Then I drove straight over to Papa’s and also had some leftover fish&chips for lunch. Then Papa read me the rest of chapter 11 of The Investigator, and also chapter 12. He told me that he’s gonna try to read ahead a bit tonight, and figure out which sections are important to read, because I’d like to approach the end before the book club meeting on Monday. Then I also called mom to help write an email about the school job too. The other thing that happened at his house was he and Talia succeeded in getting my Skullcandy earbuds to connect and play audio. That was a success.

Then I went into Open Door. I thought I was leaving a bit early, but because Papa’s house is a bit farther, I was only there like 5 minutes before my shift. Tonight at Open Door, I was mainly in the back room with a woman named Jessie. She said when she got there, there were 22 voice mails. When I checked there were like 16. We finished them all. I also had my meds at 5:01pm, which was a bit after my 12-hour mark because for some reason my alarm didn’t go off. Maybe I just didn’t set it right, because the same thing happened with my noon med. I’d heard the phone alarm ringing from the other room, but it didn’t vibrate my watch at all. Anyways, for my meds tonight, I had my med with a 10g fat mac&cheese we’d gotten at Trader Joe’s. It was very good. I also had a 3g fat brioche roll from Open Door, getting me up to 13g. Useful, because the other day my cancer doctor clarified for me that the number I’m supposed to hit is 11-14g of fat with the cancer medication.

I also had some great talks with Anita and Pat, who were at the front check-in desk. I’d never met Pat before, but I definitely remembered Anita. They’re the ones I took my photo with, mainly because I talked to them about disability, and the fact that I earn enough to live off of because I worked so much before the crash. I also told them a bit more about this project, and said I started it because my memory was so bad after the crash, but now I really like it. I think one of them also commented on liking my earrings, which I said I got with my aunt at an estate sale the other day.
