Open Door and Caroline and Hannah at Bolé Ethiopian Cuisine

Updated: May 4, 2023

April 28, 2023: Meds at 6:20am with a cup and a half of oat milk. Set the alarm for leaving for Open Door for 9:05am. I put on the shirt that I wore to the Fogo party before the accident. Also, Sheldon messaged me this morning and asked about doing a game night next Wednesday or Thursday. I told him I’m super down, and I am leaving for Florida on Saturday. I also told him about the not being able to drive home after any drinks. So I’m not sure if I’d sleep over or someone else would drive my car home, but we’ll see. Then I went to Open Door, and I had a pretty good time. I translated for at least three or four groups of people. There was also this one family who spoke only Russian that we had a hard time communicating with, and I accidentally addressed them in Spanish. The cool thing was that I talked to this lady named Judy who was volunteering in the client assistance room. I told her about the accident, going to therapy, losing all three of my jobs, and being in search of a new career. She also told me about a book, called The Boy Who Could Run But Not Walk. I considered taking a photo with her but I didn’t actually do it, partly because I’m seeing my other friends tonight. Oh and I also sorted out my schedule for tomorrow. Lisa decided to not officially list me as a photographer for tomorrow even though I am, and she told me to just come in after I drop my mom off at the airport, whenever that is. So I’ve got tomorrow morning pretty much sorted out. Then Papa was at mock trial for most of the day so I just stayed home and worked on my yearbook and messaged people on Tandem to learn Spanish. I showed that Argentinian guy Luis my website, and I told him that I used to be a professional photographer, and he looked at my website and told me my photos were incredible. And then I said that I still do a little bit of theater photography, but I don’t have a theater page on my website. He said, “Deberías de crear un sitio de fotos de teatro,” and that comment is what made me decide that I kind of do want to create a theater page on my site. God knows I have enough content for it. So what I did is I went through my Flickr and downloaded a bunch of my better theater pictures, in the hope of creating a page for theater photos on my site. I did make a draft of it on my site and sent it to Papa, but I haven’t linked the page to the actual menu of my site yet. Papa said that he thinks we should go through some more photos and look at it together some time. Then I also took my meds early, just so I can eat whatever I want with Hannah, Ruby and Caroline tonight. I had the meds with just three cheese and crackers, for about 10g of fat, over two hours after I’d eaten my lunch, which was leftover board meeting food at Open Door with hummus and mangos. We’re gonna go to an Ethiopian Restaurant because Ruby said the Somalian one we had been looking at is good but more of a lunch spot. Oh and Papa also called me just to check in, after he finished with mock trial, which was the reason I didn’t go over to his house today. Instead I stayed at my place and did Spanish. I considered the gym but decided I’d rather organize my stuff here. So now Hannah made our reservation at 7pm, so I’m gonna go over to her place for like an hour first, and she’ll drive me there. I’ve also decided that for photos I should just put in the selfie I took of myself at Open Door with the translator pin, and then save space for my photo from tonight, which will have Hannah, Ruby and Caroline, though who knows what order we’ll be in. Well it turns out that it was just me and Caroline and Hannah. Hannah had changed our reservation from 6 to 7 because they didn’t have more 6pms, and so then what happened was I went over to Hannah’s house at 5:30, and then Caroline came over and Caroline and I looked through a bunch of Hannah’s old clothes. I ended up with a new pair of white sweat pants, that shockingly weren’t too short, and also a shirt that says patrón tequila, which Hannah said that when she got it from Nolo’s she literally thought of me even then. I love it. Wore it to the restaurant too. Oh and somewhere around this time Caroline and Hannah also recommended some grocery store food to me. They said the Trader Joe’s orange chicken is really good, which is maybe what I could spend my gift card on, which I told them about. Oh and also shortly before we walked in I said that it was amazing hanging out with the three of us again, because I considered the two of them to be my best friends before the accident. What we did at Bolé, the Ethiopian place we went to, is we got the meat combo, good for 3 guests, that came with three veggie dishes, and we got it with the miser, which I chose because it was spicy, the roasted beets, and the shiro, which Hannah had to remind me that she had ordered the next day. For my photos I did the picture once we got our food and I also did a picture in Hannah’s house at the end of then night with her cat Samantha. I also got the Bauhaus Lounge Juicy Pale Ale, which Caroline recommended and actually turned out to be a sour, even though it didn’t say it was. The funny thing that I don’t have pictures of at all is that after eating the Ethiopian food we went to meet Hannah’s mom at the place her sister works, Pizza Luce, and her mother bought us desserts. I got carrot cake, and split it with Hannah’s brother Josh. The really cool thing that happened there was I was able to talk to Hannah’s sister Heidi about maybe hanging out some time. We talked about what happened with my Lunds job and I said I’m desperately looking for things to do with my time, and she also randomly said one of her best friends lives super close to me, and I gave her my address and made sure she had my phone number, which was important because she had gotten a new phone. After that Caroline and I went back to Hannah’s house to pick up our clothes, which is where that photo comes from with Samantha. And then we got the stuff in our cars and left.
