Methodist with Aaron, Papa cards, and Trivia with Alex, Lily, Liam, Ben and Cas, Fire!

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

June 24, 2023: Alright so this morning I took my meds at 5:13am with a 6g fat container of yogurt. I didn’t realize it was low fat until I’d eaten it, so then I had to have some mochi bites from Trader Joe’s too. Then I drove over to Cub Foods, to pick up some more yogurt that was actually the right fat count. So then what I did was on the way back, I saw that there were a bunch of people standing outside the Methodist food shelf. So I decided to stop there and see what was going on. It turns out that it was the once a month Saturday food distribution, which I’ve volunteered at one time before but stupidly didn’t have on my calendar. I’ve added them all to my calendar now. It’s the last Saturday of every month.

At Methodist, I had the best conversation ever with a different volunteer, who also spoke Spanish. I think he said he just learned it in school, and he also uses it a bit with his job, since he works with taxes. His name was Aaron, and I talked to Aaron an absolute ton today, and it was 100% in Spanish. I told him about my cancer and the story of getting run over by the car, and the story of my life basically. I even mentioned that the crash happened in front of Reign, and I think he knew where that was. He asked if it was the one “by the library,” and I think it is. Then I also told him about this project, and I said this one came from my therapist because my memory was so bad after the crash I couldn’t even remember what to talk about in therapy. Honestly I didn’t take any notes during our conversation, I just texted myself that he worked with taxes because I knew I wouldn’t remember that. I think he also mentioned to me that he came from North or South Dakota. Might have been North, not quite sure because I didn’t write that down.

I also told him a TON about the cancer, and how I have to take my meds twice a day and I can’t get off disability til I have a job that offers health insurance. Anyways, then Jodi messaged me that she had some smoked salmon for me to pick up, so I dropped off the yogurt at home and ran by Jodi’s to pick up the salmon. The salmon is also the exact right fat count to take my meds with, just like the yogurt I bought today. When I was at Jodi’s I talked to her and Bill a ton. We talked a lot about relationships, and they said that they had become friends first and formed the relationship later, which they suggested was a good way to create one. They also gave me a piece of toast with cheese and jam on it.

While I was over at Jodi’s, Papa texted me that I could have lunch with him and Talia, since he’d just been out to coffee with Talia at Sister Sludge, and he still had a bunch of Chinese food at his house. So I drove over there and the three of us had a lunch, which is when I also noted that I’d last eaten at 12:57pm, which is good to know for the meds. Then I just had Papa read me a chapter of the mystery book I have to have read for the book club on July 10th, the book that I take pages and pages of notes on just to understand it. Honestly the whole book, Papa has read aloud to me so far, and we usually summarize what happened in it whenever we read it. Today we finished chapter 7. I’ve also got my alarm set for 4pm for the meds, since that won’t be 12 hours after the morning ones, but it’ll be close and I want to have them done and be ready to eat food with Liam, because he said they had food tonight.

My alarm went off at 4pm, but I didn’t take the meds til 4:01pm because I forgot that I’d left my pill thing at home today, even though I’d already run into that once today, when I took my noon med at Jodi’s house, and I had to run to my car to get the extras I put in there. So that happened again for my night cancer medication too, where I had to grab it out of my car, so I was a minute later than I intended on. Screw it, I’m basically not even gonna have space to write about trivia here. A lot has already happened today. And Papa and I are about to play Canasta too. I won.

Ok so trivia went really well. We actually won! Second time I’ve had that happen to me now. Tragically first place doesn’t get the barrel of cheese balls, so it wasn’t really a win. Liam did get like a 30$ gift card to the brewery though, which helped to pay off our tab. I also talked to the team that usually wins, and they congratulated us. The guy Jon said he might try to have a bonfire at his place next week too, and we’re invited. I don’t think Liam/Alex are going to trivia next week but maybe I could with Mattie. A bonfire would be great. Speaking of bonfires, that’s what we did after trivia. Alex lit a fire in Liam’s back yard, and there was something about maybe the fire pit having come from him in the first place. My last photo is just a screenshot of my Snapchat story, since it has the fire in it. I think I’m pretty done, and I didn’t even have to take out the paragraphs to have space.
