Methodist and Sue at Open Door and Owen w/ keys to the castle

July 11, 2023: Alright today I’m not doing that thing where I leave it all to the end of the day. This morning I woke up and took my meds at 5:20am (or at 6:19) with something I thought was an 11g fat yogurt, but it turned out to only be 6g. It was guava passion fruit. So then I had another 6g fat yogurt, which was bananas & cream flavor. Then I braided my hair and did my makeup, and I’m ready for a day full of Spanish. I’m not scheduled til 12:30pm at Methodist, but because I love speaking Spanish, and they’re re-registering every single client today, I’ll probably head over when they open at like 8:45am. And then I’ll stay til about three when I’ll leave and maybe video chat a new guy I like a lot named Joey, and then I’ll run over to Open Door for my 4:15pm shift on a day when half the leaders are gone, so I’ll just be helping Owen to run the place there. Oh and I also emailed Rosa Rubio back at 6am en español about the new job interview coming up on Wednesday, since she asked if I’d found another place to speak Spanish yet. Also told her about my day full of volunteering. Texted Papa that I did really well on the games today, even though I suffered a 1 on Waffle. Got wordle in 3 (no cheater) and Spanish wordle in 4, plus worldle and Statele in 1 guess with no use of a map for either. Also, I just realized that I’m not sure if I took the meds this morning at 5:20 or 6:19 because I screenshotted both times, but either way, I waited til 8:19am to have some of the strawberry yogurt cereal from Trader Joe’s. I think it was 5:20 because I remember it being an event number, so I’ll try to take the night ones at 5:20pm. It’s 8:42 and I’m heading into Methodist now, with coffee! Ok I did Methodist and it was kinda fantastic. They were literally re-registering every single client today, and it’s very good I went in during the morning because the afternoon was honestly a bit boring. In the morning we did this thing where we’d get a whole group of 8 Spanish-speaking clients together and walk them all through the whole registration form. I did the first 8 Spanish clients too. I also did exactly one group that was English speaking, which was less fun of course. I didn’t even count how many Spanish groups I did. There was also one volunteer who I had a pretty good conversation with, named Jean, and we talked about the fact that I love Spanish now because it’s the singular thing I really remember from before my injury, and I asked her for a photo and she didn’t wanna do it, unfortunately. So right then, I just took a selfie of me in the room wearing my Open Door pins, which are honestly more useful at Methodist than Open Door even though they come from Open Door. And technically there’s this one girl named Rogelia in the back, who was another translator who’s only helped out on Saturday mornings before. She asked if it was like this every Tuesday, and I said that God no it wasn’t. Next week will also be bit crazy because not everyone is gonna be re-registered yet, but then it should calm down and just be the regular amount of crazy. Speaking of busy, today we handed out and served playing cards 1-163, and then re-started the decks and did through like 19 or 20 too, after the first deck was done. The end wasn’t that busy, and like I said before, thank God I came in early in the morning because that was the very exciting time. Oh and when I was heading out, I was thinking that I’d probably be hungry before 5:20, so I grabbed another slice of pizza from the kitchen. Earlier, I’d had four square slices of pizza Supreme from Mama Cozzi’s, and one square slice of cheese. So that, plus the one extra slice of Supreme at the end, should hold me to 5:20pm. Alright then I went into Open Door! It was also a bit busy, though less crazy than my morning for sure. Thank God I managed to actually get photos with people there too. Also randomly, looking at the photos, I’m remembering that one client commented on my patrón shirt, and I said my friend got it from her restaurant. I also succeeded in taking a photo with a woman named Sue, who said she’s been volunteering there for like 3.5 years. I told Sue all about the cancer and the brain injury and I even asked her to remind me of what we had talked about. Now I’ll open my notebook for the first time writing the Open Door part. I told her about all of the careers I’ve had, like photographer, communications coordinator, server/waiter, and hopefully now Spanish helper in a school. I told her about my interview that I’ve got tomorrow at 1pm too. Also told her about the guy who ran me over getting 45 days because he wasn’t drunk. Didn’t write this down but I’m pretty sure I said I wish he was drunk because might have been punished worse. Also told her I’m trying to read Harry Potter in Spanish now, and was before the crash too. Also told her about loving Spanish so much more after the crash for sure. Who knows, sometimes life works in mysterious ways.

Ok I kinda wanna end that on that sentence, but I should also mention that today I succeeded in marking a big thing off my Any.Do list. I asked Jason, the CEO, about who designed the flyers they send out, and he said that it was Mikell, who I know, and she’d love help if I’m offering. I’m a little friendly with Mikell too, so that could be cool. Oh and I should also mention that I didn’t have my meds exactly on time because I was so involved with people needing translation when it rang to heat up the food and also when the med alarm rang. Instead, I think I did it at 7:20pm with a container of fiery chicken curry, that I smartly also brought fat free yogurt and mango chutney for. Pretty sure I left my Tupperware in the fridge, but the container is empty anyways and I’ll just grab it on Thursday. Oh and at the end of the night, the woman in the back room, Sue, also told me that my photo of the day project has turned from something kind of bad really into something good, because now I use it like as my diary and it gets me to talk to people more. Oh and also Owen captioned his own BeReal today.
