July 31, 2023: Ok so today was mediocre, and then it got really bad, and then it got a lot better. One alright part of my day is that I went to the airport to serve as a greeter for a family who was flying to Disney World. They were Spanish speaking, but I didn’t completely feel like they needed me to translate the way the people at the food shelf do. So that was alright. The bad part of it was that it was ridiculously early. The person I was volunteering with, Judy, actually picked me up at my house at 4:30am. Honestly I kind of made a mistake on the medication. I should have waited til a bit later to take it, but I took it at 4am when my alarm rang to wake up. Then I went there, and I actually was able to communicate with them a fair amount in Spanish. The only thing is that I really didn’t feel that necessary because they could also communicate in English. I had some alright talks with Julie too. I even told her about recovering from the brain injury, and speaking to a therapist from Argentina in Spanish, and some doctors thinking that was my native language. Then, when we met the family, she also asked me to share that story. I talked to them in Spanish a decent amount, and Judy thought it was very useful to have me there. Then when I came back I was insanely tired. I had an appointment with my occupational therapist. I told her my thoughts about me having viewed going back to Fogo as the "Barbie world," from the movie. She hadn't seen it, but knew kind of what I was talking about. Then we enter the bad part of the day. Honestly I went over to Papa’s to eat dinner and take my meds, and I’d forgotten to bring the fat free dressing so we had to go to Lunds to grab some. At Lunds we also ran into Damien, who’s a cashier there. Stopping in there, Papa and I decided that I would have hated it anyways so it’s kind of a good thing I’m not working there anymore. Then we had some talks where honestly I was insanely depressed, to the extent that I even cried a bit. Honestly right before I went to the Spanish meet up I was almost in tears. Then I went there, and it was amazing. Of course I ended up talking the whole night to one of the 2-3 native Spanish speakers there. His name was Luis and he’s from La Ciudad de México. The other interesting thing that happened at the group event was that I was able to introduce myself as someone who “didn’t drink.” And then when two of the people were talking about salsa and swing dancing, I kind of decided that I might want to give one of those a try. And I’d try to do it sober, too. The other thing that happened is that I ran into a girl who had been in one of my Spanish classes, one of the Paolas. I actually got her number too, which I didn’t have before coming. Let’s get back to the photos. Honestly for photo, first I did one just a selfie in front of a big part of the group, and then later I took a selfie with Luis, who I kind of talked to most of the time we were there. I asked him why a native Spanish speaker would want to come to one of the meetups for people who are learning Spanish, and he said that he had some friends from a different meetup who came. Then he also gave me the information for the other meetup, which is on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately I’m busy on a few Saturday mornings coming up. Oh and also before I went to the Spanish thing, I had my meds at 5pm with some fried chicken pieces over some salad, with the fat free dressing. It was so much after the time I took it in the morning just because I want to try to get back on a schedule I can keep regularly.
