Jessica and Poke over Spanish meetup

January 8, 2024

Well, today I finally planned to have a background photo when taking my pics. In the past, I’ve just been using something random. Today was very nice. It started off with being dragged outta bed way too early to go to an MRI at Mayo, at like 5am. Unfortunately, the technician had a fan on so it was one of my least enjoyable MRIs ever since I was freezing the whole time. Then, I went to my therapy session with Jessica. During that appointment, Bill actually called me asking for a translation from and to his coworker Javier, and I was able to do it in front of Jessica. I think she was impressed, even though I had to look up “clogged” and “drain.” I learned, “el desagüe está obstruido.”

Then, we were able to get my CT moved much earlier in the day because we said we “had something at 5pm in Minneapolis.” Really it was just that we didn’t wanna wait around, and also Papa had to go to mock trial around 5. My first thought coming out of the CT was that it would have been miserable to have to wait that long since it lasted like less than 5 minutes. I’d have been so pissed if we had to wait there for hours to do it. Then, we grabbed some food. I got poke. I remember I had the tuna lover bowl.

Then, we drove back. At night, I got to go to a Spanish language meetup. It was excellent. I also quite love being able to drive there alone again. And also, for the first time, I talked about my blog and I literally asked for a photo saying “ok, who wants to be on my blog?” I believe the people in the photo are Ben, Mike, Diana and Reynaldo. We talked about jobs, and I said that I’m not currently working but what I do with my time is I volunteer as a translator. That’s was a wonderful thing to say in a meetup for Spanish-speakers. Diana arrived from Argentina like a month ago, and has a husband who is an engineer. Unfortunately, one guy who I talked to a lot at the beginning missed out on the photo. His name was Aaron and he’s from Mexico City. I told him I was accepted to ITESM for a semester “but got sick” so I couldn’t.

Earlier on in the night, there was also a Brazilian girl who was learning Spanish. I told her the one sentence I know in Portuguese, “I have a traumatic brain injury,” and said my Fogo ex-manager taught me. That also kind of got us all talking about what had happened to me. Basically, it was just a really good night. Funny enough, also near the beginning of the night, I also talked to guy who randomly knows Leo from Fogo, and I told him I was messaged a few days ago with him saying he “just wants to go back in time.”
