Alright... today I learned that I really have to keep writing these to cement things into my mind. The reason I need to do that is 110% due to the traumatic brain injury. I literally don’t have a firm grasp of what I did for the last week or so because I haven't written very many of these. I kind of learned that during my morning therapy session with Whitney.
Today I did a quick call with a lady who works with the Salvation Army site Neighborhood House. I’d been feeling pretty down, but the call with the Neighborhood House lady, whose name I think was Bailey, perked me up a little bit. Then I did therapy and then drove down to Mayo Clinic. Yesterday, I’d been thinking I’d have Papa drive me down, but I was feeling a bit more optimistic after the Neighborhood House call so I decided that I felt up to driving.
We got down to Rochester, checked in to the hotel for the night, and then went to meet with Dr. Abeykoon. He thinks that they’re seeing some real progress on my cancer from the targeted chemo treatments, so they won’t start me on any new drug at the moment. He wants to see how the chemo continues to work because it’s been effective so far, and they'll hold off on the other new potential treatment for now.
He also encouraged me to enjoy living with my father, and said that he would happily live with his parents again. During that meeting, my BeReal went off and I got it on time with Dr. Abeykoon, who I wrote in the BeReal caption “kind of cured my cancer for three years.”
We also asked him about the good food to eat with the meds at the place we were thinking of going, First Noodle. He knows the place and made a recommendation. When we went there, I did end up ordering the oil splashing noodles that he’d mentioned. His big guidance was that the fat content so much doesn’t have to be exact, more of a general guideline, which kind of goes along with my new idea that I should just try to do take the medicine with dinner almost every night.
