Paramedics, Pre-Surgery and McDonalds with Papa

December 6, 2023

Alright, my day started at 3am today. That’s what the far left photo I have is, taken at 3:03am when a few paramedics took me to a different hospital in an ambulance. Their names were Reo, Matt and Cole. I had a great convo with one of them, who was either Matt or Cole. It was whichever one of them sat in the back of the ambulance with me. I know Reo was driving. I told the story of my TBI and also the cancer before that, which we think is actually what led to my tumble on Saturday, that I still have the cuts from. Today, they took me over to Nasseff Tower, where neurosurgery is based. While I was there, I suffered through not eating for the entire day, and then I went to my surgery around 2pm. Fortunately, I have the smallest appetite n the world anyways, so it wasn’t too bad. I was able to take my cancer med around 11am though, with a tablespoon of olive oil, since I couldn’t eat before the surgery. I took a photo of my face and my bed right before going to surgery, for no reason that I know of. Kind of nice though, because after the surgery, a ton of the scabs came off my skin on my face. I don’t exactly look un-injured right now, but it’s much less extreme.

With the ambulance transfer, I actually didn’t realize it happened at 3am til after we arrived at the new building. I also told them that I’d met with my two ambulance savers from the car crash around the one year anniversary of my crash. My other big success of the day is that I stuck one of my blog business cards in the top of my underwear when I went down to the surgery, so I was able to give it to one of the nurses who I had a great talk with. Her name was Kim, and we joked about her full name being Kim R N. I told her my photography site was just my name .com too. Frankly, today was the first surgery I’ve had in years where I actually remember the time when they put me to sleep. I remember breathing through a mask very deeply and getting kind of light-headed, at least. I think the surgery was a success, but we won’t know for quite a while if they’ll find anything significant. I’m just eating a few 0g fat fruit strips now. Oh, and I also had my meds at 9:35pm with a McDonalds’ cheeseburger afnd smoothie slushy thing that Papa grabbed for me.
