BBQ with Family, Oh Heck/Canasta with family, and Trash but NOT trash

May 29, 2023: Alright so I totally failed to do this yesterday, or the day before yesterday. Basically on the 29th I woke up at 4:21am and went back to sleep. I also made my weekly calendar, which is when I figured out I could do Tuesday morning at Open Door, and I signed up, and then I went over to Papa’s house and he backed up my computer, and then my family came over. Right away I figured out the best words to start for wordle with mom, which are “rates” and “taser,” since they have A, E, R, S and T. Mom also had my change my shirt because I’d washed off the one I was wearing and it was a bit damp, so she gave me a blue tank top that she’d left at Papa’s. For lunch we had burgers and corn and a “Jodi salad,” which included cucumbers. We also talked about my classes for college and the way I got a bunch of credits from the CLEP test for Spanish. I’m pretty sure Bill also thanked me for translating for him when he was talking to a co-worker named Jorge the other day. Then we went inside and played a full game of Oh Heck, which Grandma won. I also looked at an email from Rosa about a volunteer opportunity with Metro South. Then I actually decided to try to teach my grandma how to play Canasta. She said that she’d played it in 6th grade but didn’t remember anything. So yeah we played not even a full game with Jodi helping her, just a few hands, and I was winning but we didn’t get to the end. Instead I left to go home to meet up with Sam. Stupidly I didn’t write down a single thing I talked about or did with Sam, and I didn’t really take any pictures either. What we did is we walked down to the Minnehaha Falls from my house, and we walked all the way down the creek and then back up again, onto the city streets on either Minnehaha Parkway or Godfrey, I think. We also stopped at Dairy Queen, and randomly my elementary school classmate Shelby was working there again. We talked to her a fair amount, and she said that she’d actually worked there for ten years, which was a total surprise to me. She also gave us a family/friend discount, so our Orange Juliuses and shakes were about $5 cheaper than they would have been. Speaking of, we also managed to finally figure out what an Orange Julius is, which Papa and I had been wondering about for months. It turns out they’re basically a cross between a milk shake and a smoothie. So yeah, then Sam and I walked back to my house. Oh and I just remembered that I didn’t take a single photo of us that night, instead the only photo I could find on my phone was a picture of the trash cans where we threw away the Dairy Queen items. I think I was just trying to remember where we threw them away, for no freaking reason. Anyways, that’s my photo that is “trash but NOT trash.”
