A lot has gone on the last two weeks! I had been discharged on Aug. 5 after brain surgery on July 28, but started to have high fevers, vomiting and headaches and had to return to the hospital on Aug. 11 after napping all day and having a fever of 102.6 degrees farenheight. On the way to the emergency room, I even had my legs give out at a gas station, and my mom thought she was going to have to call 911.
During my stay, my favorite doctor was definitely Dr. Santiago, a young resident who is only ONE YEAR older than me. She is from Colombia and had also lived in Miami. She was super nice and really easy to talk to, and we mostly spoke Spanish to each other. There were also a lot of infectious disease doctors, neurologists, and neurosurgeons involved in that week.
While in the hospital, I had a full body PET scan, multiple MRIs and CTs, and every blood test possible. They also tapped my shunt twice to test for infection in my cerebrospinal fluid! Even after all that, they couldn't find any source of infection or reason for the fevers.
It was amazing to have papa there because he got me every little thing that I needed. And Miguel was able to visit on the 18th, and join a family Zoom call.
I got out on Monday, but stayed three more days in Rochester for many more tests, including a full day of neuro-ophthalmology testing with Dr. Chen, a visit with my regular neurologist Dr. Flanagan, and with my regular cancer doctor, Dr. Abeykoon. I have seen both three of those doctors for SIX YEARS and it's always great to visit with them. -(Anya, with Colleen)
