04.14.25: Surprise! Back in the hospital, this time at Mayo

After just a little bit of time at home post-discharge from Abbott, my nose started bleeding again and we all decided I should visit Mayo yet again!

My mom drove me down, and we got there after midnight and spent all night in the ED. We even did most of the NYT Games word puzzles in the ED at around 2:15 am.

Francisco, a doctor from Ottawa, Canada, helped to get an IV placed. And he spent the whole time quizzing me on capitals from around the world. I even knew the capital of Estonia, which he didn’t know, which was Tallinn!

The other main thing they worked on was to have an ENT examine and unpack and clean and repack my bleeding nose. Dr. Sharif was from New Jersey, although his parents were from Iran and he was really nice and put a special gel bandage inside my nostrils. Unfortunately, later, when i went to the bathroom, I extracted part of it!

Then, after the ED, they transferred me by ambulance to the other campus of Mayo, where I will have lots and lots of scans. In the ED, they discovered that my platelets were too low, which is why i was bleeding so much, and I got a transfusion at around 7am in the Emergency Room!

This afternoon, i just took my first shower in days, and I feel clean and so much better. But unfortunately, I didn’t have a razor and I wasn’t able to shave my legs.

I think I’m going to be here a couple days for MRIs, a PET scan, and bone marrow biopsy.

Damn, it looks like dinner was a cheeseburger, mac & cheese, and hot chocolate!
